Ottawa Senators forward Tim Stützle has returned to practice with the team in Edmonton, marking his first skate with the Senators since the Olympic break. Stützle had been labeled a game-time decision due to illness before the break. His return comes as the Senators prepare to face the Oilers, with Stützle eager to rejoin his team's push for a playoff position.
Stützle reflected on his experience playing with Leon Draisaitl during the Olympics in Milan. Despite the enjoyment of playing together, Stützle acknowledged the shift back to being opponents as the Senators face the Oilers. "He was awesome, he was a great leader," Stützle said of Draisaitl. "I knew him before, but not as well as obviously now spending every day with him, I had a lot of fun".
The Senators are currently on a road trip and are trying to solidify their chances to make the NHL playoffs. Stützle's return provides a boost as the team aims to climb the standings. Before play began on Monday night, the Sens stand five points out of the second wild card position.
The Senators' current record stands at 29-22-8, placing them 6th in the NHL Atlantic Division. The team is looking to improve its position as they continue the 2025-26 season. Stützle's presence back on the ice is a positive sign for the Senators as they navigate the challenges of the season and strive to secure a playoff berth.
