Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium has confirmed that school bus routes are operating normally as of today, January 28, 2026. This follows widespread cancellations on January 23, 2026, due to poor road conditions and visibility caused by snow squalls. The cancellations affected all zones within Simcoe County, including North (Elmvale, Midland, Penetanguishene, and Orillia), West (Collingwood, Stayner & Wasaga Beach), Central (Barrie, Innisfil & Angus), and South (Alliston, Beeton, Bradford, Cookstown & Tottenham).
The Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium (SCSTC) is responsible for providing transportation for approximately 36,000 students in Simcoe County. The consortium makes decisions regarding bus cancellations based on several factors, including road conditions, current and forecasted weather, and visibility. These decisions are typically made before 6:00 AM and announced on local radio stations, the SCSTC website, and the SCSTC's Twitter feed.
While schools remained open during the bus cancellations, it was up to parents to decide whether it was safe for their children to travel to school. Students unable to attend due to transportation disruptions were able to access learning materials online.
Parents are encouraged to monitor the SCSTC website (www. simcoecountyschoolbus. ca) or Twitter (@SCSTC_SchoolBus) for any updates or delays. The SCSTC can also be contacted directly at 705-733-8965 for inquiries regarding transportation. With routes back to normal, students can now reliably get to class.
