The Ruck twins, Liam and Markus, have always been a package deal, and their NHL draft experience was no different. Hailing from Osoyoos, British Columbia, the 18-year-old identical twins were both selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2026 NHL Entry Draft held in Buffalo, New York. Liam was chosen 22nd overall in the first round, with his brother Markus following shortly after, picked 39th overall in the second round.
This remarkable achievement marks a significant milestone for the Ruck brothers, who have spent their hockey careers playing together. They recently concluded impressive seasons with the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League (WHL), where they finished first and second in league scoring. Markus led the WHL with 108 points, closely followed by Liam with 104 points. Their shared success and undeniable chemistry on the ice have drawn comparisons to NHL Hall of Fame twins Daniel and Henrik Sedin.
The twins' parents, Derek and Nina Ruck, have consistently emphasized the role of passion and dedication in their sons' development. "It's all about passion," has been their mantra, highlighting the countless hours of practice and unwavering commitment Liam and Markus have poured into the sport. This shared dream of playing in the NHL together, nurtured from a young age in Osoyoos, has now become a reality, underscoring the power of sibling support and a relentless pursuit of athletic goals. The Penguins organization has also shown its commitment to the twins, with reports of a congratulatory call from NHL superstar Sidney Crosby welcoming them to the team.
