With the NHL trade deadline looming on March 6th, speculation is running rampant about potential player movement. Several notable names are circulating in the rumor mill, including veteran stars Steven Stamkos and Nazem Kadri.
The Los Angeles Kings, reeling from a season-ending leg injury to winger Kevin Fiala at the Olympics, are reportedly considering acquiring Steven Stamkos from the Nashville Predators. Adam Proteau of The Hockey News suggested the Kings pursue Stamkos, believing the 36-year-old could help fill the offensive void left by Fiala. Stamkos carries an $8 million average annual value, closely aligning with Fiala's $7.875 million. However, Stamkos also possesses a full no-movement clause, granting him control over his destination. Kings GM Ken Holland has already made a significant move by acquiring Artemi Panarin from the New York Rangers, but the loss of Fiala could push him back into the market for another scoring forward.
Meanwhile, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports has noted speculation linking Montreal Canadiens to Calgary Flames center Nazem Kadri. However, Lavoie questions the long-term benefit of adding the 35-year-old Kadri to the Canadiens' roster. Kadri's age is a concern, with Lavoie suggesting he might only contribute for a season or two before his performance declines. The Canadiens' Oliver Kapanen's strong play has lessened the urgency to acquire a center, but if they do pursue one, they might prefer a younger player like Robert Thomas of the St. Louis Blues.
Other potential moves include the Buffalo Sabres looking to bolster their blue line and the Edmonton Oilers potentially shifting their focus to acquiring a defenseman. As teams assess their needs and the March 6th deadline approaches, expect more rumors to surface and potentially some surprising trades to materialize.
