McMorris Eyes Fourth Slopestyle Medal After Crash Scare

Regina's Mark McMorris is vying for his fourth consecutive Olympic medal in men's snowboard slopestyle at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. The Canadian snowboarding icon's participation was in doubt after a crash during Big Air training on February 4 resulted in a concussion, bone bruising, and an abdominal strain. However, McMorris has since been cleared to compete and is ready for the final.

McMorris secured his spot in the final after a solid performance in the qualification round. He landed a score of 81.81 on his first run, placing him third overall. McMorris has a history of overcoming adversity, including competing at the Sochi Olympics with a broken rib and recovering from life-threatening injuries before the PyeongChang Games.

Joining McMorris in the final is fellow Canadian Cameron Spalding. The 20-year-old Olympic debutante secured his place with a strong second run in the qualification round. While another Canadian, Eli Bouchard, narrowly missed the cut, the presence of McMorris and Spalding in the final gives Canada a strong chance at another double podium finish, reminiscent of the 2018 and 2022 Winter Olympics.

The men's slopestyle final is scheduled for today at Livigno Snow Park. Despite earlier weather-related disruptions, the stage is set for McMorris and Spalding to showcase their skills and compete for Olympic glory. McMorris, who has claimed bronze in the event at the last three Winter Olympics, is looking to add to his medal collection and continue his impressive Olympic legacy.
