McMaster Physiotherapy Student Jayden King Makes Curling History

Share:

Jayden King, a 23-year-old first-year physiotherapy student at McMaster University, is currently making Canadian curling history at the 2026 Montana's Brier in St. John's. King is the first Black skip to ever compete at the Brier, which is Canada's national men's curling championship.

King's journey to the Brier began in Tillsonburg, Ontario, where he was raised on a family farm. He started curling at age 13 after watching the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and the Brier on television. King quickly developed a passion for the sport and began competing at a high level. By 18, he was curling out of London, connecting with teammates from Ottawa, and the group captured the U21 championship in 2023. Now, King balances his studies with the demands of elite-level curling. He required special permission to miss classes to compete in the Brier.

King's team won the Ontario men's championship in January and is currently ranked among the top teams in the world. King recognizes the importance of his presence at the Brier, representing a more diverse future for Canadian curling.
