The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced the dismissal of General Manager Brad Treliving. The decision, revealed late Monday evening, marks the end of Treliving's tenure after nearly three full seasons with the team.
Treliving was appointed as the Leafs' GM in May 2023. During his time, the team achieved a regular season record of 139-92-27 and a playoff record of 10-10, including a first-round series win against the Ottawa Senators. However, this season's performance has fallen short of expectations, with the team on the brink of missing the playoffs for the first time in a decade.
Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment (MLSE) made the decision after a thorough analysis of the team's current state and future direction. The organization stated a need to "chart a new course" in its pursuit of the Stanley Cup. Treliving's background includes serving as the general manager for the Calgary Flames prior to joining the Leafs. He also played a role in founding the Western Professional Hockey League.
The move initiates a search for a new general manager to lead the Maple Leafs. The decision reflects the high expectations and intense scrutiny that come with managing one of Canada's most iconic hockey franchises.
