Heavy Snowfall Expected in B.C. Interior This Week

Share:

Significant snowfall is anticipated across the B. C. Interior, prompting warnings from Environment Canada and urging caution for travellers. The Coquihalla Highway, a crucial route connecting the Lower Mainland and the Interior, is expected to receive between 40 and 60 centimetres of snow from Wednesday night into Friday.

The weather system responsible is also generating high winds, with gusts up to 90 km/h forecasted for the Fraser Canyon. Similar wind warnings are in effect for the Stuart-Nechako region, west of Prince George, and the southern Peace region, including Fort St. John, Dawson Creek, and Tumbler Ridge. The Peace region is also bracing for snow squall conditions.

Travellers along Highway 1, specifically the Rogers Pass section between Sicamous and Golden, should also be prepared for challenging conditions. Environment Canada has issued a snowfall warning for this area, predicting 20 to 25 centimetres of snow. The combination of heavy snow and strong winds is expected to significantly reduce visibility and make roadways difficult to navigate. Motorists are advised to check DriveBC for the latest updates before travelling.

Environment Canada advises residents and travelers to adjust their driving to the changing road conditions. Preparing for potential delays and ensuring vehicles are equipped for winter conditions are highly recommended.
