The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, Italy, marks the return of NHL players to the Olympic stage for the first time since 2014. For four members of the Montreal Canadiens, this means a chance to represent their nations and compete for a medal. Nick Suzuki (Canada), Juraj Slafkovsky (Slovakia), Alexandre Texier (France), and Oliver Kapanen (Finland) will all be participating in the Games, which officially started February 11.

Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki received the call confirming his spot on Team Canada early on New Year's Eve. He is expected to play a bottom-six role for the team, contributing his well-rounded game and penalty-killing abilities. "It means a lot," Suzuki said. "There are so many great athletes, especially in Canada, and to experience the Olympics as an athlete will be something that's truly rare". Some analysts believe Suzuki could outperform expectations, showcasing his talents on the international stage.

For Juraj Slafkovsky, this will be his second Olympic experience, having won a bronze medal and being named tournament MVP at the 2022 Beijing Games as a 17-year-old. This year presents a greater challenge with the return of NHL players. Slafkovsky recognizes the increased competition but aims to "give my best performance" and help his team win.

The tournament will run from February 11-22 and will be broadcast on CBC/CBC Gem and Radio-Canada/ICI TOU. TV. With the preliminary rounds underway, hockey fans across Canada will be watching closely as these Habs players chase their Olympic dreams.
