Former Bloc Québécois MP Pascal-Pierre Paillé, 47, was arrested by Quebec City police on Tuesday and charged with multiple sex crimes involving minors. The charges include sexual assault, sexual contact with minors, and sexual assault in a position of authority. The alleged incidents reportedly occurred in August 2024 and between January and June 2006.

Paillé, who represented the riding of Louis-Hébert from 2008 to 2011, appeared in court in Quebec City on Tuesday. Following his court appearance, he was released under specific conditions. These conditions include prohibitions from visiting parks, playgrounds, or daycare centers, and he is barred from holding any position of authority over children under 18.

Prior to and following his time in Parliament, Paillé worked as a teacher. His current employer, the Centre de services scolaire de la Capitale, has suspended him from his teaching duties since February 2nd. The Centre de services scolaire des Découvreurs has confirmed Paillé was employed by them at the time of the alleged 2006 incidents.

The charges against Paillé include sexual exploitation and sexual assault involving a teenager over whom he held a position of authority. The case is likely to have significant political ramifications in Quebec, raising questions about vetting processes for political candidates and those working with children.
