Team Canada is facing a major challenge at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan as captain Sidney Crosby left Wednesday's quarterfinal game against Czechia with an apparent leg injury. The incident occurred midway through the second period after Crosby took a hit from Czechia's Radko Gudas. Crosby appeared to favor his right leg after the collision and left the ice in noticeable discomfort. He did not return for the third period and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

The extent of Crosby's injury is currently unknown, but his absence is a significant blow to Canada's chances of advancing in the tournament. Prior to his injury, Crosby had been a key player for Canada, with two goals and four assists in the preliminary round. He even set a Canadian record with his 16th Olympic point during Canada's 10-2 win over France.

At the time of Crosby's exit, Canada and Czechia were tied 2-2. Nathan MacKinnon scored a power play goal to even the score after Czechia took the lead. The winner of the game will advance to the semifinal on Friday. Crosby, a veteran of three Olympics, was looking to lead Canada to its first gold medal since 2014. He previously captained the team to victory at the 2010 and 2014 Winter Games.

The Canadian team will now have to rally without their captain as they continue their quest for Olympic gold. The semifinals are scheduled for Friday, with the gold-medal game set to close out the competition on Sunday.
