CBC "Had No Knowledge" of Epstein Emails With Employee

Share:

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) is facing questions after it stated it had "no knowledge" of emails exchanged between a former employee and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The emails, which surfaced in the latest Department of Justice (DOJ) release of Epstein files, date back to 2009. The CBC says it is trying to confirm details about the employee involved.

According to the released documents, the individual appeared to be a CBC News Edmonton employee. The emails included a signature identifying them as such, along with a link to their broadcast on the CBC Edmonton website. The employee reportedly invited Epstein to check out their broadcast. CBC spokesperson Chuck Thompson stated that the corporation believes the person worked for CBC between 2008 and 2009, but this has not been confirmed.

The content of the emails included discussions about a documentary the broadcaster had made and references to Epstein's private island. One email mentioned the broadcaster had "just got back from the British Virgin Island's". The emails also reference an invitation for Epstein to bid on an auction for a dinner for four to benefit several charities. The CBC maintains the exchange was personal and unrelated to journalistic activities. The identity of the employee has been suggested as the late Tiffany Burns, who worked at CBC Edmonton.

The revelation has sparked debate, with some questioning how an employee of a news organization could be unaware of Epstein's criminal history, while others suggest the emails may have been innocuous and taken out of context. This situation raises concerns, especially considering Epstein's previous conviction for soliciting a minor for prostitution in 2008 and the subsequent allegations of sexual abuse. The incident also brings renewed attention to Epstein's connections with powerful figures and his ability to enter Canada in 2014 despite his criminal record.
