Prime Minister Mark Carney has voiced Canada's support for the recent military actions undertaken by the United States and Israel against Iran. The strikes, launched on Saturday, February 28, 2026, targeted locations within Iran in an effort to prevent the country from developing nuclear weapons. Carney stated that Iran "must never be allowed to obtain or develop nuclear weapons".

In a statement issued from Mumbai, India, where he is currently on an official visit, Carney asserted that Iran has failed to dismantle its nuclear program, halt enrichment activities, and end its support for regional terrorist groups, despite numerous diplomatic efforts. He emphasized that Canada stands with the Iranian people and reaffirmed Israel's right to defend itself. The Prime Minister also said that Canada is not participating militarily in the attacks and was not party to the military buildup or planning.

The Canadian government is urging Canadians in Iran to seek shelter, as the situation remains volatile. Foreign Affairs Minister Anita Anand stated that Canada's ability to provide consular services in Iran is extremely limited due to the absence of a Canadian embassy. She advised Canadians in Israel, Palestine, and Lebanon to consider leaving while commercial options are still available.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre has also voiced his support for the "courageous people of Iran in toppling this terror regime". The strikes have drawn varied international reactions, with the United Kingdom stating it had no role in the attacks, while France called for an emergency United Nations Security Council meeting.
