B.C. Hit with Wind, Rainfall Warnings This Weekend

Share:

British Columbia is bracing for a weekend of inclement weather as Environment Canada has issued wind and rainfall warnings for several regions. The alerts, in effect for Saturday and Sunday, cover areas from the Peace River region to the Fraser Canyon and central coast.

In the north and south Peace River region, strong winds are expected with gusts reaching up to 100 km/h, particularly south of Dawson Creek. Wind warnings are also in place for the Chilcotin region, near Anahim Lake and Nimpo Lake, extending into northern B. C. including Prince George. These areas can expect strong winds overnight, gradually easing throughout Sunday. The Fraser Canyon is also under a wind warning, with gusts up to 80 km/h expected on Saturday before diminishing on Sunday morning.

The central coast is under a rainfall warning, with heavy rain and strong winds anticipated. Meteorologist Brian Proctor of Environment Canada noted that a high-pressure system is impacting the B. C. coast and could bring significant rainfall to the Vancouver area. Environment Canada advises residents to secure loose objects, prepare for potential utility outages, and be cautious of high-sided vehicles being pushed by the wind. Those in affected areas should monitor weather alerts and forecasts and adjust plans accordingly.

Environment Canada reminds British Columbians that weather conditions in the mountains can change rapidly, leading to hazardous driving conditions. Road conditions are available at DriveBC. ca.
