Nashville Predators forward Austin Watson has been handed a maximum fine for slashing against Predators forward Cole McCarron, the NHL Department of Player Safety announced today. The incident occurred in the third period of their recent game.
The fine is the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement. The amount of the fine was not disclosed. All money collected from the fine goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
McCarron, a native of Ontario, has played in the NHL with the Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators, and currently with the Predators organization. The 31-year-old McCarron has recorded 2 goals and 5 assists in 31 games this season. Watson has 5 goals and 10 assists in 46 games this season.
Such fines are common in the NHL, serving as a disciplinary measure for on-ice infractions that don't warrant a suspension.
