A Canada-wide warrant issued in connection to the September 2024 abduction and homicide of Zeyad Shammo in Winnipeg has culminated in the arrest of Chad Jason Dandan in Surrey, British Columbia. The Winnipeg Police Service announced on Friday that Dandan, 25, was taken into custody on March 26 with the assistance of the Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia and the BOLO Program.

Dandan is charged with first-degree murder, kidnapping, and extortion in the death of 22-year-old Zeyad Shammo. Police responded to a report on September 10, 2024, of a missing man who had been abducted the previous day from Bridge Lake Drive in south Winnipeg. Shammo's body was discovered days later in a home on Bristol Avenue in the city's St. Boniface area.

Two other suspects, Sonny Balemba and Robert James Chaykowski, were previously arrested and charged in connection with Shammo's death. Dandan had been actively evading authorities and was listed as seventh on Canada's most wanted list. According to Fraser Valley Today, Dandan "took deliberate steps to avoid being recognized". He has since been transported back to Winnipeg and remains in custody.

The arrest of Dandan concludes a complex investigation and brings a measure of closure to the Shammo family and the Winnipeg community. The Winnipeg Police Service continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the abduction and homicide.
