The Utah Mammoth announced Monday the signing of forward Kailer Yamamoto to a two-year contract, ensuring the dynamic winger remains with the team. The deal, with an average annual value of $1.75 million, keeps Yamamoto in Utah through the 2027-28 NHL season. He was set to become an unrestricted free agent on Wednesday, July 1st.
Yamamoto, 27, proved to be a versatile contributor for the Mammoth during the 2025-26 season. He recorded 23 points (13 goals, 10 assists) in 59 regular-season games, often playing a bottom-six role but also seeing time in the top six. His offensive production was efficient, posting the second-highest shooting percentage on the team among players with at least 35 games played. He also added five points in six playoff games.
"Kailer is a versatile forward that wins battles and can produce offense for us," said Utah general manager Bill Armstrong. "Kailer is important to our team and we are thrilled that he will return to the Mammoth." Yamamoto's ability to play both wings and his strong two-way game were key factors in the decision to re-sign him.
A former first-round pick (22nd overall) by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2017 NHL Draft, Yamamoto has accumulated 73 goals and 160 points in 374 career NHL games with the Oilers, Seattle Kraken, and Utah Mammoth. He also has experience in the American Hockey League, where he played for the Tucson Roadrunners. His re-signing is a strategic move for the Mammoth as they continue to build their roster for upcoming seasons.
