Snow, rain mix expected across Southern Canada Monday

Share:

Southern Canada is bracing for a mixed bag of weather as snow and rain showers are expected to sweep across the region on Monday. Environment Canada has issued weather advisories for several provinces, urging commuters to exercise caution during the morning and evening commutes. The specific areas affected range from Southern Ontario, across the prairies and into parts of British Columbia.

The expected precipitation is due to a low-pressure system moving in from the American Midwest. Temperatures are hovering around the freezing mark, creating the potential for black ice in some areas. Motorists are advised to reduce their speed and increase their following distance to ensure safe travels. Pedestrians should also be cautious of slippery sidewalks and crosswalks.

In Ontario, areas such as the Greater Toronto Area and Niagara region can expect a mix of rain and snow, with the possibility of brief periods of freezing rain. Further west, the Prairie provinces are anticipating heavier snowfall, particularly in southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. Up to 10 centimeters of snow could accumulate in some locations, leading to challenging driving conditions.

The weather system is expected to move eastward throughout the day, bringing similar conditions to Quebec and the Maritime provinces by late Monday. Environment Canada will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary. Residents are encouraged to stay informed by checking the latest weather forecasts and advisories before heading out.
