The Florida Panthers are signaling that their aggressive offseason moves are far from complete. General Manager Bill Zito stated that the team is "not done" after acquiring forward Brady Tkachuk from the Ottawa Senators in a significant trade. This acquisition, which reunites Tkachuk with his brother Matthew, is seen as a major step towards re-establishing the Panthers as Stanley Cup contenders after missing the playoffs this past season.
The blockbuster deal, which sent multiple first-round draft picks to Ottawa, was not just about bringing the Tkachuk brothers together. Zito emphasized that the team is continuously evaluating its roster and seeking ways to improve. "Every day we sit back there and play fantasy hockey trying to figure out ways to improve, and we'll continue to do that," Zito said. The Panthers, who won back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2024 and 2025, are looking to rebound after a difficult 2025-26 season marked by injuries.
While the addition of Tkachuk, a dynamic and physical forward, is a clear statement of intent, Zito acknowledged the challenges ahead. The team has limited salary cap space after the trade, making every subsequent move critical. "As you add more and more pieces, the cap shrinks more and more, so your margin of error is gone -- and we have to get it right," he explained. The Panthers will be active in the upcoming NHL Draft and free agency, aiming to fill remaining needs, particularly in goal, to ensure they are poised for another deep playoff run.
