Kamloops RCMP are investigating after a man was fatally shot in the city's downtown core early Wednesday morning. The victim, identified as 34-year-old Emmanual "Manny" Brooks, was found with gunshot wounds near a 7-Eleven store on Seymour Street at Sixth Avenue around 4:30 a. m. PT. Despite emergency medical care, Brooks succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

The Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit has taken over the investigation and believes the shooting was a targeted incident. No arrests have been made, and police are actively seeking information from the public. Staff Sgt. Kevin McIntyre is urging anyone who was in the area at the time, or who has information or video footage that could assist investigators, to contact the Kamloops RCMP Detachment and reference file 2026-7304.

The shooting has raised concerns among local residents. Graeme Green, who lives nearby, told CBC News that the area is known for drug and criminal activity. He expressed fear due to the open public space and the potential danger of such incidents.

This is Kamloops' second homicide of 2026. The investigation is ongoing, and police remained on scene throughout Wednesday gathering evidence and speaking with potential witnesses. The RCMP are releasing Brooks's picture to further the investigation.
