An 18-year-old is facing charges after an assault in a downtown Winnipeg building on January 30, 2026. Winnipeg Police Service responded to multiple calls reporting a disturbance at a building on Portage Avenue near Hargrave Street around 5:30 p. m.
The incident escalated when the suspect knocked a man to the ground who was walking through the building. The victim managed to disarm the suspect, who was carrying a knife, and bystanders intervened to assist until police arrived. The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by paramedics.
Upon arrival, police found the suspect uncooperative and violent. Officers deployed a Taser to safely take him into custody. The 18-year-old is now charged with possession of a weapon and assault with a weapon and was released on an undertaking.
Winnipeg Police are continuing their investigation into the incident. They are asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
