A major downpour is anticipated to hit eastern Ontario and western Quebec on Saturday, April 6, 2026, prompting Environment Canada to issue rainfall warnings for several regions. The weather agency is predicting a considerable amount of rain in less than 24 hours, with some areas potentially seeing up to 50 millimetres.
Areas such as Pembroke, Ontario, and Maniwaki, Quebec, are under specific rainfall warnings, forecasting more than 30 millimetres of rain and potentially reaching 50 millimetres between Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning. Ottawa and Kingston are also expected to receive between 25 and 50 millimetres of rain during the same period. Additionally, there is a possibility of thunderstorms across much of eastern Ontario on Saturday.
Environment Canada warns that the frozen ground conditions may lead to pooling water in low-lying areas, as the ground has not fully thawed from winter. The downpour is also expected to reduce visibility, making travel potentially hazardous. Temperatures are forecasted to drop from Friday's highs in the mid-teens to around 6 or 7 degrees Celsius on Saturday.
Residents are encouraged to take necessary precautions, including clearing drainage areas and avoiding travel if possible. With the Easter long weekend underway, those with travel plans should monitor weather updates and adjust their schedules accordingly to ensure safety during the expected downpour.
