Dental Care Plan Reaches Millions of Canadians

Share:

A year after expanding to cover all eligible Canadians, the Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) has reached a significant milestone, now covering over 6.5 million Canadians. Minister of Health, Marjorie Michel, announced that more than 4 million Canadians have already received care under the plan. The CDCP aims to reduce financial barriers to accessing oral health services, ensuring more Canadians can maintain healthy smiles.

The plan is already making a tangible difference in the lives of Canadians. On average, CDCP members are saving approximately $900 annually on dental services. For many, this marks their first visit to an oral health provider in years. The success is attributed to strong collaboration with oral health providers across the country, enhancing access to care and improving patient outcomes.

To maintain uninterrupted coverage for the 2026-27 benefit year, current CDCP members are encouraged to renew their coverage between April 15 and June 1, 2026. Renewal requires filing the 2025 income tax return, not having access to private dental insurance, and having an adjusted family net income of less than $90,000. Renewals can be completed online or by phone.

While the CDCP represents a substantial investment in public dental care, challenges remain. Some recipients still face co-payments, and annual renewals are required. However, the plan marks a significant step towards a more equitable healthcare system in Canada, ensuring more Canadians have access to the dental care they need.
