Caufield Named NHL Third Star of the Week

Share:

Montreal Canadiens right-winger Cole Caufield has been named the NHL's Third Star of the Week for the period ending March 22, 2026. The NHL recognized Caufield's impressive offensive output, which included 4 goals and 4 assists in three games. Tampa Bay Lightning's Nikita Kucherov grabbed the First Star, while Nashville Predators' Filip Forsberg secured the Second Star.

Caufield, 25, has been a key player for the Canadiens this season. His week was highlighted by an overtime game-winning goal against the Boston Bruins and a five-point performance against the New York Islanders. In the game against the Islanders, Caufield scored his second hat trick of the season and third of his career. Caufield is the first Canadien to hit the 40-goal milestone in a single season since Vincent Damphousse in 1993-94.

Caufield's performance puts him among the league's top goal scorers, currently sitting second in the NHL with 43 goals, just behind Nathan MacKinnon. This recognition marks a significant achievement for the young American, drafted 15th overall by Montreal in 2019.

Canadiens fans are hopeful that Caufield can maintain this high level of play as the team pushes for a playoff spot. His scoring touch and playmaking ability are crucial for Montreal's success. This honor not only celebrates Caufield's individual achievements but also underscores the Canadiens' rising talent as they aim to become a force in the Eastern Conference.
