Canucks in Trade Talks: Pettersson, Kane, Myers on Block

With the NHL trade deadline looming on Friday, the Vancouver Canucks are at the center of numerous trade rumors, with several players potentially heading out of town. The Canucks, currently holding the worst record in the NHL, appear poised to make significant changes as they continue their rebuild.

Elias Pettersson is drawing considerable interest, with the Detroit Red Wings reportedly making a strong push to acquire the star forward. Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Citizen reported that Detroit is aggressively pursuing Pettersson, despite the 27-year-old having a full no-trade clause and six years remaining on his $11.6 million per season contract. While Pettersson was an All-Star in the 2023-24 season, his performance has dipped recently, but a change of scenery could rejuvenate his game.

Evander Kane is another Canuck who may be on the move. According to TSN insider Chris Johnson, Kane, a pending unrestricted free agent, has attracted interest from several teams, including the Carolina Hurricanes, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Dallas Stars. The Canucks are reportedly motivated to trade Kane, and Kane's camp is also seeking a new team for him. Tyler Myers was a late scratch in a recent game for "roster management purposes", further fueling speculation that he could be traded before the deadline. Forward Brock Boeser told Sportsnet that Myers "deserves the chance to go win a Cup" and that the team knows they are "going to move guys and get what they can".
