Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes announced on Monday that the team has agreed to terms on one-year, two-way contracts for the 2026-27 season with forwards Jared Davidson and Hunter McKown.
Davidson, 24, played 10 games in the NHL with the Canadiens in the 2025-26 season, recording one assist. He also skated in 53 games with the Laval Rocket in the AHL, registering 16 goals and nine assists. The Edmonton native was drafted by the Canadiens in the fifth round, 130th overall, in the 2022 NHL Draft. Davidson's contract is notable as he is waiver-exempt, allowing him to be assigned directly to the Laval Rocket without requiring waivers.
McKown, acquired from the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Luke Tuch, spent last season with the AHL's Cleveland Monsters, where he recorded 25 points in 63 games. The 23-year-old was originally signed by Columbus as an undrafted free agent out of college. McKown has previously played 12 NHL games, all during the 2022-23 season, registering two assists. Both players are expected to provide depth for the Canadiens' AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket, and will be key recall options for the NHL club.
These signings come as part of a busy offseason for the Canadiens, who are also looking to solidify their roster for the upcoming season. The team has been active in contract negotiations, aiming to build a competitive team that can challenge in the Eastern Conference.
